Joanne Ibeth León Bermúdez, wife of DMG director David Murcia and
currently jailed in Uruguay, said Monday she hopes to be extradited to
Colombia soon so she can defend herself against the accusations made by
Colombian justice.
In an interview with W Radio, Léon defended her husband’s business and denied any wrongdoings by DMG or its executives.
“We at no time harmed anybody. We work hard so that everything will work well. It is because of the Government’s intervention we are where we are now,” Murcia’s wife said.
“What is happening is unfair, because he [Murcia] is a good person of good faith. he has always thought of his people in his DMG family so that they could have a better quality of life,” she added.
David Murcia is currently on trial in Colombia for money laundering and illicit enrichment. The shut down of DMG led to the losses of savings of approximately 200,000 Colombians that put money in the company. Murcia refuses to tell authorities where that money is.
