A large group of displaced victims of Colombia’s violent conflict
occupied an abandoned building in the center of Bogotá, demanding help.
The 114 war victims refuse to leave the building until the government complies to earlier rulings by the Constitutional Court and helps them.
“The only thing we ask is that we are given a start capital for a real, productive project and that they compensate us for the displacement as ordered by the Constitutional Court,” spokesman of the victims, Arley Suárez told W Radio.
According to Suárez, the 61 adults and 63 minors that took the building have been living in inhumain circumstances and are desperate. He says they will not leave the building until they are given a satisfactory answer.
“Inside there are people who prefer to kill themselves, to jump off the building if there are no concrete solutions,” he said.
Both the National Government and Bogotá authorities are trying to organize a meeting with Accion Social, the presidential agency responsible for the care of displaced, and the victims occupying the building.
