Victims demand investigation of threats against Uribe investigator

Victims of illegal wiretapping by state intelligence agency DAS have demanded a criminal investigation into threats that forced a lawmaker to withdraw from the commission in charge of investigating former President Alvaro Uribe, local media reported Tuesday.

Representatives of the victims ordered the Prosecutor General’s Office to investigate threats made to House Representative Camilo Abril, who renounced his role in investigating Uribe after two days on the case, after he received threats that stated “Don’t mess with Uribe.”

Lawyer Luis Guillermo Perez, who is defending ex-Senator Piedad Cordoba, also reported that the Congress’ Accusations Commission has in general not taken into account victims occurring as a result of the process against Uribe, and requested that these circumstances be investigated as well.

“I have had to appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice that they investigate the 19 members of the commission for the crime of prevarication by omission,” he said.

Former President Uribe is being investigated for his role in the wiretapping scandal that occurred under his administration, in which political opponents and various others were illegally monitored by government agents.
