United States Vice President Joe Biden is due to arrive in Colombia on Tuesday, after watching the United States  beat Ghana at the Soccer World Cup in Brazil, local media reported.

“The vice president wishes to demonstrate to the Colombian government and its people that the United States is first in line to support their aspirations,” said Biden, quoted wire news service EFE.

“The Vice President wishes to demonstrate to the Colombian government and its people that the United States is first in line to support their aspirations.”

Biden’s statements may be alluding to the Colombian Government’s ongoing peace process with the country’s largest rebel group, the FARC.

The US, through Secretary of State John Kerry, has most recently expressed its satisfaction with the dialogues, when the two parties reached an agreement with regards to drug trafficking.

In the same statement, Kerry also expressed support for the controversial practice of aerial fumigation, although intended to destroy illicit crops, often has the consequence of destroying legal crops in the process.

Vice President Biden, who will arrive in Colombia on Tuesday, is slated to discuss economics, energy, security and sciences with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

With Biden fresh off a trip from Brazil, he took advantage of his time there to watch the United States defeat Ghana 2-1 in the 2014 World Cup.

Biden also met with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and his Brazilian Vice Presidential counterpart, Michel Temer, according to Bogota-based W Radio.

Last year, the American VP made a similar trip through the region where he visited Colombia, Brazil, and Trinidad and Tobago.
