With a career in journalism that spanned over 40 years, Luis Eduardo Cardozo was killed in his home in western Colombia.
Cardozo was pronounced dead Sunday night at a Cali clinic after receiving a blow to the head that fractured his skull.
A 22-year-old man was arrested and is currently being processed for carrying out the attack, according to Colombia’s El Pais newspaper.
The death of the veteran journalist was confirmed by his brother, Oscar Jaime Cardozo, on his Twitter account.
“My soul brother, Luis Eduardo Cardozo Estrada (…) may God have you in his glory (…) rest in peace (…) good journey beloved brother (…) you were a brother, a father, a friend (…) we will always carry you in our hearts (…) in our thoughts (…) in the same spirit of our family,” read the Tweet.
Luis Cardozo, who was 65-years-old, was the head of communications for the municipalities of Cali and Palmira.
Over his more than 40 years as a journalist, he had worked for Colombia’s Radio Caracol, RCN Radio, Grupo Radial Colombiano, and newspaper El Pueblo.
Cardozo had stepped down as the director of Todelar Radio three months prior to his death.
Cardozo’s death comes two weeks after the fatal shooting of another Colombian journalist, Carlos Cervantes, who was gunned down while picking up his son from school in the northwestern state of Antioquia.
