Colombian authorities are investigating accusations by farmers near the border town of Tibu who say they were shot at by Venezuelan soldiers.
According to the Colombian farmers, the shooting incident took place on Tuesday when “some 100 Venezuelan soldiers asked if they could borrow boats to cross the Sardinita river” bordering the two countries.
One of the soldiers unsuccessfully tried to cross the border river, returned, after which the soldiers started shooting at those present on the other side of the border, a witness told local newspaper La Opinion.
No one was injured in the shooting incidents, but according to the Colombians there was damage to the boats and parked motorbikes.
Colombia’s Foreign Ministry announced it will be investigating the incident and that it will “maintain a direct dialogue with the Foreign Relations Ministry of the neighbor country to clarify the events.”
