Venezuela’s National Assembly announced on Tuesday it will investigate an alleged U.S.-Colombian plot to attack the country.
On Wednesday, the lawmakers will receive a document by the Assembly’s Foreign Relations Committee detailing the U.S.-Colombia plans to attack Venezuela.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez last week said the U.S. and Colombia are planning to build a fake guerrilla camp on Venezuelan soil to use as an excuse to attack the country.
Chavez sees U.S. access to Colombian military bases as a threat to Veneuela’s sovereignty. The leftist President has already sent extra troops to the border and frozen diplomatic relations.
The Venezuelan border area is known to be crossed frequently by left-wing guerrillas evading Colombian authorities, as well as right-wing paramilitary fighters and drug traffickers.
