Colombia and Venezuela agreed to strengthen ties between the two
neighboring countries Friday, but Venezuela isn’t ready to send an
ambassador to Bogotá yet. This will happen “in due time”.
Colombian foreign Minister Jaime Bermúdez met his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro in Caracas to discuss the further improvement of ties that were broken off after a dispute about Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez’ mediation to liberate hostages and the Colombian attack on a FARC camp in Ecuador in May. The neighbors have slowly improved relations since then.
“We must move forward to a new state of the relation and mend relations the two countries in all senses,” the Venezuelan Foreign Minister said. Venezuela isn’t able however to already send an ambassador to Bogotá. “Everything in due time,” Maduro said.
Bermúdez showed interest in increasing the bilateral trade relationship with Colombia’s biggest trade partner. “The more business we have between the two countries, the more the political ties and brotherhood will strengthen,” he said.
