Colombia news - Freddy Padilla

Despite pleas from Colombian authorities, the Venezuelan Government refuses to cooperate with its neighbor on the investigation into a massacre of ten soccer players last weekend, said Colombia’s Armed Forces Commander on Wednesday.

The Commander, General Freddy Padilla, stated that following instructions from President Alvaro Uribe, Colombian authorities offered their full collaboration to Venezuela in order to conduct effective, joint investigations into the murder of ten amateur soccer players, among them eight Colombians in Venezuelan border territory on October 24.

However, according to Padilla, information could not be exchanged due to the Venezuelan authorities’ refusal to cooperate.

“All institutional offers have been made [towards Venezuela] but collaboration has not occured because we have not had the chance to approach them,” claimed the General in reports by Colombian media.

Finally, the General spoke with regard to the two suspected Colombian intelligence agents who were detained on Tuesday in Venezuela on suspicion of ‘espionage’. He said that Colombian authorities have clear orders never to send agents into Venezuela and on occasions where there has been agents inside other nations, it has always been authorized by the governments of both countries.
