Colombian security agency DAS claims to have evidence proving that Venezuela plans to murder controversial Peruvian journalist Jaime Bayly.
Bayly, who is highly critical of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, wrote in an article published Monday in the Peruvian press that he had received “reliable” information that the Venezuelan government had hired hitmen to kill him.
DAS confirmed Monday evening via a press release that there was evidence of “plans to violate the security” of the Peruvian, who resides in Colombia’s capital Bogota.
DAS recommended that Bayly strengthen his security measures. The agency said they will continue to analyze the intelligence in their posession, and share it with their Peruvian counterpart.
“If Chavez’s gorillas come to kill me, the good thing will be, if they are successful, is that I will die quickly and with the glory of losing my life in defense of my beliefs… Come kill me, you bastards. I wait for you with enthusiasm. We will die together and you will shower me with useless glory (but glory nonetheless) and you will save me from a mediocre, painful, common death,” Bayly exclaimed in his article.
