The foreign ministers of Colombia and Venezuela have scheduled to meet in Cartagena in October to prepare an encounter between Presidents Juan Manuel Santos and Hugo Chavez, said the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Friday.
The key points on the agenda for the meeting are bilateral economic, commercial and energy cooperation, as agreed upon by Foreign Ministers María Angela Holguín (Colombia) and Nicolas Maduro (Venezuela) during an encounter in New York in the sidelines of the United Nations’ General Assembly.
Santos and Chavez have not met to discuss bilateral relations since April due to recent health problems of the Venezuelan leader.
In July of 2010, Chavez broke off relations with Colombia due to disputes with the president at the time, Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010). Diplomatic Relations between the two countries were reestablished on August 10, 2011, three days after Santos was sworn in as president.
