Bogota’s public transport system, the Transmilenio bus service was targeted by vandals in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
El Espectador newspaper reported the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, in which a reported five bus stations between 127 and 180 Street received damage to glass panels, caused by pellet guns.
This latest act of vandalism comes two weeks after protests erupted across the city. During the protests almost 500 citizens participated and expressed their discontent with the transport service, and allegedly resulted in violent clashes with police.

Last week local authorities announced that Transmilenio had installed 15 Wi-fi locations to its service. However this latest assault on the highlights on-going issues with the public transport system such as waiting times and congestion.

The bus service has a history of friction with the citizens of the capital. In March 2012 rioters attacked five bus stations resulting in over $500,000 worth of damage.

Local authorities in Bogota are also encountering protests time from Colombia’s agricultural community this week. Four thousand farmers from across the country gathered in Bogota to protest against the government’s handling of it’s rural communities.
