Air Force General Douglas Fraser, commander of the United States’ Southern Command, on Tuesday inspected two Colombian military bases the U.S. is allowed to use for counternarcotics operations.
According to newscast CM&, the military official was accompanied by U.S. ambassador to Bogota William Brownfield while visiting the Palanquero and Apiay military bases.
The military official was briefed by the commander of Colombia’s Armed Forces, General Freddy Padilly, on how a U.S. investment of US$47 million was being spent.
Colombia and the U.S. signed a military agreement last month, allowing the U.S. to station up to 1,400 Americans on Colombian bases. Following the agreement, the U.S. agreed to the multi-million investment in the Palanquero military base.
