United States authorities are repatriating Colombian drug lord Victor Patiño, who spent six years in a U.S. prison but was kicked out of a witness protection program.
According to several Colombian media, the deadline for the return of the former member of the infamous Cali cartel is Monday.
Patiño was extradited to the U.S. to face drug charges in 2002. Following his collaboration with U.S. prosecutors, the Colombian was sentenced to six years in prison and was granted access to a witness protection program.
After Patiño’s confessions led to a wave of murders of people close to him, the U.S. granted protection to members of his family.
Patiño was excluded from the witness protection program after accusations he continued to be involved in drug trafficking. He has no arrest warrant against him in his native country.
