The United States is preparing the extradition request for DMG director
David Murcia, who was charged with money laundering before a New York
court this week.
“The United States Department of Justice has officially approved the request to arrest Mr. Murcia and five others officials. I can not say who, because I do not remember their names, but all are associated with financial transactions he conducted for some time,” U.S. ambassador to Bogotá, William Brownfield, was quoted by Colombian media Friday.
Brownfield added he was hoping to talk to Colombian judicial authorities about the extradition procedure, after Colombia’s Supreme Court turned down the extradition request of the FARC guerrillas captured in ‘Operation Jaque’ and held responsible for having detained three U.S. contractors.
“We respectfully propose some kind of dialogue with the Supreme Court or anyone designated to talk about it (…) and see if we can reach agreement,” Brownfield said while speaking in Washington.
