The U.S. ambassador to Colombia, William Brownfield, said on Thursday that his country provided intelligence which the Colombian army used to rescue four FARC hostages in “Operation Chameleon.”
“The truth is that we helped with a little bit of support with intelligence in the operation. Thanks to this collaboration four families are with their loved ones,” Brownfield told W Radio.
The ambassador added, however, that the U.S.’s contribution was “minimal.”
Operation Chameleon was conducted by the Colombian army in the department of Guaviare, and involved some 300 members of the armed forces. The mission rescued hostages General Mendieta, Colonel Murillo, Colonel Donato and Sergeant Arbey Argote, who spent twelve years in FARC captivity.
