An Uruguayan judge authorized the extradition of Joanne Ibeth León
Bermúdez, wife of DMG director David Murcia to Colombia that wants to
see her in court for alleged money laundering.
Léon was arrested in the capital Montevideo in January, after Colombia had put out an international arrest warrant on her for her part in the company that was shut down in October 2008. Colombian authorities say DMG allegedly laundered money for drug gangs and tricked 200,000 mostly poor Colombians intoinvesting their money in the company’s pyramid scheme.
In an interview with W Radio earlier Monday, León had said she hoped to be extradited soon to be able to proof her innocence.
The extradition of León was delayed, because Uruguay has no extradition treaty with Colombia.
