Mud being flung back and forth between ex-president Alvaro Uribe and his former defense minister continued Monday, with Silva responding to Uribe’s accusations of him being “useless” among other insults.
The former Defense Minister and current Colombian ambassador to the U.S. came back at Uribe in an opinion column published in newspaper El Tiempo, stating that the ex-president “instead of answering in an intellectual and political manner, Uribe chooses to insult. It’s the old tactic of attacking to avoid answering.”
Silva highlighted more of what he considers Uribe’s downfalls, including distorting the truth and comparing him to Uribe’s much hated nemesis Hugo Chavez in his mantra of “he who does not agree with me on everything is against me.”
The diplomat’s column went on to defend himself, explaining that he has worked under various Colombian presidencies including the current administration and has earned his positions and has “practiced public service quietly and without seeking recognition because I have the stubborn belief that I can and should do something to help the country.”
Friction started between Silva and Uribe when Silva claimed last week that the former president prevented the capture of FARC leader Ivan Marquez while in office.
Uribe retorted Silva’s accusation, even threatening to sue Silva over the statements he had made and verbally bashed the current administration under President Juan Manuel Santos.
