Colombian President Álvaro Uribe will not run for president in 2010 if
the governing coalition can come up with a candidate that can keep the
coalition united, Congress president Hernán Andrade said Wednesday.
Uribe had met with members of the coalition Wednesday morning to
discuss the progress of the political and judicial reform proposals
that are currently dealt with y Congress.
“He signaled the coalition should find a candidate and if they find one who can guarantee the continuity of the coalition he will step aside,” Andrade said.
The Conservative Party lawmaker added his party already had two possible candidates to run for the 2010 elections, current minister of Agriculture Andrés Felipe Arias and former Interior and Justice Minister carlos Holguín.
