Colombian president Alvaro Uribe said Tuesday morning that leftist guerrilla group the FARC plan to launch an attack during the second round of the country’s presidential elections, reports Caracol Radio.
Speaking in Bogota, the Colombian leader announced that authorities had uncovered a plot in which a group of FARC guerrillas from the Teofilo Forero column planned to impersonate military personnel in order to carry out an attack or kidnapping during the presidential elections, scheduled for June 20.
Uribe offered a reward of COP100 million for further information on the FARC plan.
Despite receiving many threats from the FARC, Colombia’s first round of presidential elections, held May 30, were considered to be the calmest in 40 years.
In early May, authorities uncovered a similar plan by the FARC to impersonate security forces in order to carry out attacks, none of which materialized.
