Former President Alvaro Uribe claimed that he has recovered his Twitter account 33 hours after hackers gained access.
“Recovered this media!” Uribe tweeted late Thursday, almost a day and a half after he was hacked.
Experts don’t understand why it took Uribe so long to restore his Twitter page as hacker collective “Anonymous” never changed his password.
“When your account is hacked and the hackers have not changed your password, all you have to do is change your password and you’re done,” social media expert Bart Brouwers told Colombia Reports.
However, it took the former President, whose tweets are followed by more than half a million people, almost a day and a half to replace the background image and link the hackers had posted.
“I bet that because he uses Twitter for Blackberry he hadn’t noticed,” said a Colombian ict-professional.
After hacking Uribe’s Twitter account, Anonymous posted a Tweet linking to a YouTube video, changed the background image and added a link to the hackers’ blog. On the same day, the group did the same to President Juan Manuel Santos’ Facebook page and caused a shut-down of the website of the country’s Ministry of Defense.
