Former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe won the “Eagle of the Americas” prize from the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America.
Uribe was presented with the prize at the AACCLA‘s annual conference on Washington D.C. on Monday for his leadership as a “champion of economic and political freedom.” He also is noted for his dedication to enacting the Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the United States.
President of U.S. Chamber of Commerce Thomas Donohue said Uribe’s work in opening the Colombian economy has had a great influence on the Western Hemisphere.
“His commitment and ability to forge a strong alliance with the U.S. business community should serve as a model for countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean,” Donohue said. “President Uribe has demonstrated the importance of free trade when it comes to economic growth and creating jobs.”
The Eagle of the Americas prize was created in 1993 by the AACCLA to recognize an individual working in both the public and private sectors to promote trade and investment between the U.S. and Latin America and the Caribbean.
