Colombian President Alvaro Uribe said Friday he had met with United States President Barack Obama in Toronto, Canada where the G8 are meeting.
Uribe told reporters that Obama had a positive attitude towards pushing the pending free trade pact between the U.S. and Colombia.
“Obama was very expressive, determinated and friendly, telling me that he would push it forward and I told him, ‘president, we need these signs of confidence,'” Uribe said.
The Colombian head of state added that according to Obama an approval of the FTA is “a matter of time and political momentum.”
Uribe said he also met with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian President Silvio Berlusconi.
Uribe was invited to come to Toronto to talk about his country’s fight against leftist rebels and drug cultivation and trafficking.
