Colombian President Alvaro Uribe says that although he cannot give advice to his successor, he will make the transition with all the necessary decency, Caracol Radio reported Thursday.
Speaking to Radio Caracol, Uribe mentioned his respect for the decision of the Inspector General’s Office to ban the Governor of Valle de Cauca, Juan Carlos Abadia, from public office for ten years.
“You have to be very careful in this campaign. I cannot pretend to give advice to the president-elect of Colombia,” said Uribe.
He said he would give objective information to whoever is chosen as president by the Colombian people.
“What I repeat to my compatriots is that, in 200 years of independence, this country has barely lived in peace for 47 years. The rest has been violence, so we are recovering the security that is the great road to peace,” said Uribe. “It is important to stay the course.”
