President Alvaro Uribe on Monday proposed new security measures for Barranquilla at a security meeting held on the Atlantic Coast Monday,
According to newscast CM&, the president said that armed forces will be increased on the Atlantic Coast in order to combat organized crime, and offered a reward of COP200 million for the capture of criminals known as “Valenciano” and “Sebastian.”
Uribe also asked the approximately 8,000 employees of private security companies in the Atlantico department to more intensely cooperate with local police.
All of Colombia’s major cities are suffering soaring violence fueled by the country’s drug trade and paramilitary gangs that emerged after umbrella organization AUC demobilized and its leaders extradited.
