Colombian President Álvaro Uribe is confident that the relations with
the administration of his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama will improve.
The Presidency released a short communique saying that the President met with Foreign Minister Jaime Bermúdez and Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos after their return from Washington.
The two Ministers were in the U.S. to speak with members of the Obama administration and U.S. Congress to lobby the continuation of Plan Colombia and a ratification of a free trade pact between the U.S. and Colombia.
According to the communique, the Presidency expressed that “the results [of the ministers’ visit] are of the utmost importance for Colombia in order to build better relations with the new administration of that country.”
