Former Colombian president Alvaro Uribe has reacted furiously to new challenges from Ecuadorean leader Rafael Correa to take a joint polygraph test.
Correa challenged Uribe Monday to a joint polygraph in which both politicians would be questioned about their alleged unsavory ties — Correa to the FARC, Uribe to paramilitaries.
On his Twitter account Tuesday, Uribe wrote, “President Correa already did the polygraph with his praise for FARC terrorists.”
Correa’s challenge, which has been made on several previous occasions, this time came during an official visit to Ecuador by the current Colombian president, Juan Manuel Santos.
It is the first time there has been an official visit since the 2008 unilateral Colombian military operation that killed FARC leader alias “Raul Reyes” on Ecuadorean soil, which caused a massive rift between the two countries. Santos was defense minister at the time.
Uribe’s supporters accused Santos of treachery for failing to defend his predecessor in front of Correa. Ernesto Macias Tobar, a friend of the former president, wrote on Twitter, “They spoke evil about Jesus in front of Judas and he stayed silent. Yesterday Correa spoke evil in front of Santos.”
Referring to 2008’s diplomatic crisis, Tobar tweeted, “Correa said Santos and his general should be put in jail, Uribe came to their defense. Yesterday Santos acted like Judas.”
