The cabinets of outgoing Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and incoming Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos met at the Casa de Nariño in Bogota on Friday morning to coordinate the handover of power from the old administration to the new.
Uribe called the breakfast meeting, hoping to finalize an effective change of government and to avoid disrupting other executive branches in the transition.
Santos’ cabinet will present the policy plan it has been drawing up at a summit in Anapoima, Cundinamarca, to Uribe. The outgoing leader will have the opportunity to express his opinion on the program.
At the close of the encounter, Santos is expected to announce a number of new appointments, including the minister of communication, the directors of the National Learning Service (Sena) and the customs and tax agency (DIAN).
Santos will be inaugurated on Saturday amid tight security.
