Uribe accuses Medina of blackmail

According to the President, Yidis Medina called his family telling them she needed to talk to the President because “something very serious was going to happen”. Uribe says he asked her not to call him again when he heard about the call.The President also said the jailed congresswoman has been pressuring government officials to give her a position at Ecopetrol, Colombia’s state oil company.Yidis Medina is currently in jail for bribery. She admitted to have changed her vote about a constitutional change needed for President Uribe to be re-elected immediately in 2006, in exchange of promised favors made by government officials. The judge will announce how the severity of the punishment the coming few days.The President himself and (former) members of his administration are also under investigation.
