Former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has filed a criminal libel suit against former senator Rodrigo Lara Restrepo for allegedly implicating him in the murders of a former presidential advisor and former head of the civil aviation authority, reports El Tiempo.
“In my capacity as the injured victim … I present a criminal complaint against Rodrigo Lara Restrepo for aggravated criminal libel on the basis that Mr. Lara launched serious allegations against me that hurt my honor, and the honor of using Twitter,” Uribe said.
Uribe claims that Lara accused him of being “responsible for the murders of Pedro Juan Moreno and Cesar Villegas.”
Lara asked the former president via his Twitter account if he could “clarify” the death of the two “witnesses against him.”
Former presidential advisor Pedro Juan Moreno died in a plane crash on February 24, 2006. He had been a close ally of Uribe, but later became a critic.
Extradited paramilitary Salvatore Mancuso later accused Moreno of having been told in advance about the 1997 AUC massacre at El Aro by Carlos Castaño, while Moreno was secretary to Uribe, who was then governor of Antioquia.
