Colombian cyclist Rigoberto Uran finished 24th in this year’s Tour de France 24th and was not able to recover the white jersey for best young rider he had lost only three days before the final stage.
The 24-year-old from the Sky Team surprised in the first weeks of the tour and was able to put on the white Jersey at the end of the 15th stage after being part of a break-away that gave him more than a minute of advantage over his direct opponent for the jersey, the Estonian Rein Taaramae.
Uran remained strong in the following days and even broke in to the top ten of the general standing of the tour two days later.
However, in stage 18, a killer 125-mile run through the French Alpes, the Colombian became one of the victims of Andy Schleck whose break tore the pack apart and gave Taaramae the opportunity to take a significant distance to Uran and take over the white jersey.
After the beating in the Alpes, Uran was not able to recover his prominent position.
At the end of the 2,000-mile tour, Colombia’s best rider finished in Paris with an accumulated 42 minutes and 48 seconds behind tour winner Cadel Evans, who took no less than 86 hours, 12 minutes and 22 seconds over the world’s most important cycling event.
Leonard Duque, the second Colombian participant in the Tour, finished 121st, more than three hours behind the winner.
