Workers of Cerrejon, Colombia’s largest coal mine, have reached a deal with the mine’s directors on an increase in wages and called off the planned strike.
Igor Diaz, the president of the Sintracarbon union, told RCN Radio the workers will receive a 6.5% inrease in wages and additional health insurance.
According to the union leader, the deal that affects some 5,000 of the mine’s workers will be signed on Tuesday and plans for a general strike have been called off.
