United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will visit Colombia in June to evaluate U.N. programs in the country, local media report.
In the secretary-general’s first visit to Colombia, he will meet with President Juan Manuel Santos and Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin.
Colombian ambassador to the U.N. Nestor Osorio announced the two day visit which will take place June 11-12.
Last year, Ban Ki-moon praised Colombia for its success in the fight against poverty and misery and its progress towards “Millennium Goals” set by the U.N. in 2000. He stated that countries like Colombia show “the importance of understanding the obstacles we face and how to overcome them.”
The secretary-general is due to meet with Osorio later on Monday to mark the end of a month that has seen Colombia preside over the U.N. Security Council.
