An ongoing truckers srike in Colombia has cost the country $140 million so far, say employers.
According to the president of the National Association of Road Cargo Transport Companies (Asecarga), the eight-day-old strike has brought to a standstill more than a quarter of the country’s 200,000 trucks.
In an interview with RCN Radio, Asecarga director Jairo Herrera Murillo said the strike is not only causing losses in earnings, but also in a drop in petrol consumption, toll income and the consumption of related services as motels and truck repairs.
The truckers are on strike because the Colombian government refuses to overturn a reform that would eliminate a fixed-price system.
