Colombia received 16% more foreign visitors in the first five months of 2011 than in the same period last year, President Juan Manuel Santos said Friday.
According to the President, the ongoing growth of Colombia as a travel destination is “good news” for the country that has seen a steady growth in tourism this century since security in tourist areas improved and the country actively started to promote its tourism potential abroad.
Santos said that the number of hotels in the country is growing and that he expects the hotel sector to open an extra 3,000 rooms this year.
