A delegation of Colombian trade unionists in Switzerland plans to request that Colombia be included among the 25 countries with the worst labor and human rights records in the world.
Trade Unionists from key trade union organization CUT are in Switzerland to participate in the 98th Conference of the International Labor Organization. The Conference, which will run from the 3rd to the 19th of June, will discuss the impact of the global economic crisis on workers.

Mora, told weekly Semana that “Colombia remains the most dangerous country in the world in which to exercise workers’ rights. So far in 2009 eighteen activists and
union leaders have been murdered. There is also a strong anti-union culture,
violations of human rights, of the right to association and collective
bargaining in Colombia. “
The trade unionists said they will seek international recognition of the situation by requesting sanctions against the Colombian government be implemented.
