Deportes Tolima ranked highest of Colombia’s soccer teams in the new IFFHS rankings that was published Monday.

The Ibague-based Tolima currently sits with 154.5 points and current champions Millonarios with 147.5 points. The two teams are the only Colombian teams to appear in the top 100 that is led by English soccer giants Chelsea.

Tolima has made great strides since the early January 2013 standings where they ranked 3rd in Colombia behind the Millonarios and Atletico Nacional at 113th place. Nacional has since dropped out of the top 100, and Millonarios have not earned any points since and have dropped one place to sixty-seven.

The rankings are based on compiled points earned in each soccer league with both Tolima and Millionarios playing in the Copa Libertadores. In that league a win earnes 14 points, a tie is seven points, and a loss in zero points.

Teams will also earn points in national league competitions and championships which are divided into four groups based on league difficulty. Group four earns the most and likewise group 1 the least. Liga Postobon falls into group one, with a win earning 2.5 points.

The IFF HS is a German organization that chronicles the history and records of league soccer.
