Three pipeline workers were kidnapped in Colombia’s eastern department Arauca, which borders Venezuela, local media reported Tuesday.
According to witnesses, Engineer Yesid Galindo, administrator Eber Morera and driver Carreño Becerra were kidnapped in the city of Saravena by unidentified gunmen.
All three employees work at the oil pumping station, Banadia, owned by the company, Termo Technica, which is a subcontractor of the large firm, Bicentennial Pipeline of Colombia.
According to Arauca’s local media, last Monday, a man who identified himself as a member of rebel group ELN, boarded one of Termo Technica’s buses and told employees that everyone involved with the company “would be declared a military target”.
This past weekend, the body of Police Officer Diego Gutierrez was found abandoned on a road just outside of Saravena after he had been kidnapped for seven days.
According to Arauca’s local media, rebel groups ELN and FARC have a strong presence in the region.
