Colombian police arrested three men suspected of being responsible for
the recruitment of twenty young men in the poor south of Bogotá. All ended up mysteriously being killed by the Colombian army.
The three men allegedly belong to the Águilas Negras, a paramilitary group that rose from the ashes of the demobilized Self Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC).
The men all disappeared after they left to meet someone about work or to go to a job. Research on the bodies — who were found in mass graves and were filed as guerrillas killed in combat — showed the men died between 24 and 48 hours after their disappearance.
The Colombian armed forces have started an internal investigation into the possibility the men were killed to make it look like the army had killed more guerrillas, something human rights groups have accused the armed forces of for a long time.
This week alone 46 cases were of forced disappearances and being reported as killed in combat were discovered.
Police are looking for six more suspects.
