Colombia’s Registry Office website crashed on the day of the presidential elections due to technical problems, leaving users unable to access election results and information on where to vote.
The website, which provides information for citizens on how and where to vote, and will be publishing the results of the election as they occur, experienced problems since 9.15 AM, thought to be a result of an overload of visitors to the site.
Registrar Carlos Ariel Sanchez said, however, that the problems have been “totally overcome” and results of the election should not be delayed.
Sanchez also said that the problems are not due to hackers accessing the website, which was a concern during Colombia’s congressional elections on March 14.
Polls have been open in Colombia since 8 AM Sunday morning, and the National Registry Office says that election results should be available from 7 PM on Sunday night.
