Suspended Mayor of Bogota Samuel Moreno asked the Inspector General’s Office to call for a voluntary hearing of additional witnesses to clarify his charges of embezzlement and extortion.
Moreno did not respond directly to the charges imposed by the Public Ministery, and instead requested that other former mayors of the Capital testify, including Jaime Castro, Enrique Peñalosa, Antanas Mockus, Paul Bromberg and Luis Eduardo Garzon. He also asked that various secretaries and directors, his communications advisor, and the former President of the State Council, Ricardo Hoyas, who advised the mayor, are also heard in court.
Moreno said in a 40-page document that the disciplinary process being made against him is “the most abhorrent lack of procedural good faith.”
Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez extended the suspension of the mayor on July 26 by three months, because of the fear that the unlawful activity commited by Samuel Moreno could possibly happen again.
