Two civilians were killed and three injured after an armed attack in Cauca on Wednesday that is believed to have been launched by the FARC.
Details still remain unclear, but reports indicate that authorities in the area successfully fought off the attackers, allowing the injured and other civilians to escape to safety, according to Caracol Radio.
The governor of Cauca, Guillermo Alberto Gonzalez, told W Radio that the incident occurred when a group of guerillas attacked a truck carrying fruit, which resulted in the death of the truck driver, and a motorcyclist that was passing by. The two civilians did not die directly at the hands of the attackers, but in a traffic accident caused by the attack.
Gonzalez suggested that the attack was the result of a recent seizure by the authorities of several kilos of cocaine, marijuana, and arms.
On Monday, the Colombian government announced plans to step up security in Cauca following a spate of attacks over the weekend that left at least twelve people injured.
