Colombia’s Supreme Court has not been able to elect its president, not
even after 32 voting rounds, newspaper El Tiempo reported Thursday.
According to law, the court picks its own president from within its members, but neither one of the four judges who aspire the court’s presidency have been able to receive the required 16 of 23 votes.
According to the newspaper, ten former president’s of the country’s highest court sent a letter to the current magistrates expressing their concern about the court’s inability to elect a president.
Judges within the court itself say the delay in electing their president has not affected the work to be done by the court, but some did express their worries about the public image of the court.
The vote to only continue with two candidates, making it more probable for one to have the necessary two third of the votes, did not make it, the newspaper reported.
