The Supreme Court tabled a complaint against Colombia’s inspector general for attacking reproductive rights.
Women’s Link Worldwide, a women’s rights NGO, filed an official complaint against Inspector General Alejandro Ordoñez in March 2010 after he decided to prosecute a clinic providing abortions, despite its compliance with Colombia’s 2006 law allowing abortions in special circumstances.
“The Inspector General is unaware that sexual and reproductive rights are human rights and therefore are part of his mandate,” Monica Roa, a spokeswoman for Women’s Link Worldwide, told Colombia Reports. “The Constitution demands that [he] guarantee all human rights, not just the ones he thinks are worthy of respect.”
The court rejected the plaintiff’s arguments and decided to shelve the case because it did not merit a sanction.
