Support for presidential candidate Juan Manuel Santos plummeted in a second voter poll released Friday, while the popularity of his main adversary Antanas Mockus remains constant.
In the second Friday poll, conducted by Datexco in conjunction with W Radio and El Tiempo, 26.7% of poll participants said they would vote for Santos in Colombia’s upcoming presidential elections, while 38.7% said they would elect Mockus.
This poll differs to a previous poll released Thursday evening, which placed voter support for Santos at 34%. Support for Mockus only varies by 0.3% between polls, with Mockus receiving 39% in the Thursday poll.
Support for the Conservative Party’s Noemi Sanin also differs between the Thursday and the Friday polls. In the Thursday poll Sanin earned 11% and in the Friday one she registered 9.8%.
All of the other key contenders registered lower popularity in the Friday poll. Support for Polo Democratico’s Gustavo Petro was 5% in the Thursday poll but registered at 2.9% in the Friday one.
Cambio Radical’s candidate German Vargas Lleras‘ voter support was at 4% in the Thursday poll, but 3.3% in the Friday one.
The Liberal’s Rafael Pardo‘s popularity was registered at 3% in the Thursday poll and 2.3% in the Friday one.
3.3% of poll participants voted “none of the above,” while 10.6% voted “I don’t know.”
The poll released Friday was conducted from April 27 to 29 in 36 Colombian cities. 2,225 Colombians of legal voting age participated. The Thursday poll surveyed 1,000 people in 38 cities.
Colombia’s presidential elections will be held on May 30. If none of the candidates wins over 50% of the vote, the two most popular candidates will compete in a second round election.
