‘Sudaca Party’ promises to unite Latin American sounds

Three groups currently shaping the direction of Latin America’s alternative music scene will come together for one huge night of Sudaca pride in Bogota on June 30 at the Downtown 727 club.

The first edition of “The Big Sudaca Party” will include Chilean group Sinergia, Los Afro Brothers from Mexico, and Colombia’s very own Ska rockers, Dafne Marahuntha.

Experimental funk outfit, Sinergia, from Chile, fuses funky styles with alternative metal and ska, producing a sound that has kept them in constant rotation on MTV in recent years.

Mexican band, Los Afro Brothers, were the winners of the Latin American Motorockr battle of the bands and have since continued to impress crowds with their highly energized shows and socially conscious lyrics. The Mexicans will be promoting their second full length album, “La Carretera.”

Following the release of their first studio album, “Dafne,” Bogota’s Dafne Marahuntha have been wowing fans and critics alike with shows at the three biggest festivals in Colombia last year, as well as their nomination at the 2009 Shock Music Awards.

The Big Sudaca Party promises to bring Latin American music together for a night that will help to establish that regionally produced sounds are as good as those from anywhere else.

The term “Sudaca,” once a racial slur from European bigots, is now being used as a source of pride.

Tickets to the event are available through Ticket Express at COP40,000 before May 25, and COP50,000 for those who don’t get organized in time.

The Central Bogota venue, Downtown 727, is at Carrera 7 with Calle 27.
