Cargo and passenger boat owners will demonstrate Thursday over fuel prices, following a four-day strike which has paralyzed Colombia’s Pacific coast.
The strike began four days ago after a fuel subsidy offer, that was granted last December, was denied by the government.
The subsidy was requested after the cost of one gallon of diesel increased from $3.18 to $4.28 which the boat owners say creates an unfair and unsustainable situation.
The protest has also the support of fishermen, who are also affected by the increasing price of fuel.
The protests have caused food shortages and increasing fuel prices in about 20 Pacific towns which are only accessible by boat.
Armed Forces are preparing to step in to control the protest, as they fear public nuisance.
