A mass strike by Colombia’s judicial workers looks set to continue as the union rejected a proposal by the government, according to local media.
Asonal, the judicial branch union, rejected the drafted agreement written by Colombia’s Minister of Justice, which sought to end the 28 day strike.
The protestors have been attempting to level wages and provide a bigger budget for the judicial branch and its workers.
“We regret to tell the Minister that the draft agreement that the Government offered has not been accepted by the foundation. Following consultation with the whole country, we took the decision not to lift the judicial strike,” said Asonal President Nelson Cantillo, reported newspaper El Tiempo.
According to Cantillo, another proposal will need to be drafted in order to meet all of the judicial branch’s demands, including better wages and additional resources for the courts.
The strike has caused mayhem accross the country with more than 100,000 court cases unbale to be processed.
