Colombia’s President Juan Manuel Santos called Spain’s President-elect Mariano Rajoy “a great friend.”
President Santos said that Mariano Rajoy, who was elected president of Spain Sunday, “is a great friend of Colombia, a personal friend.”
President Santos continued to applaud Rajoy. “Of course I wish him the best of success. I spoke to him last night and congratulated him. We agreed to work together. He won the election by a very large margin.
“He has a series of important challenges ahead, because the European economy in general and Spain’s in particular has serious problems. But I am certain that Mariano Rajoy will succeed.”
The Colombian head of state made the proclamation in London Monday after a meeting with Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
