At least 10 pilots on Colombia’s commercial aircrafts have been operating without valid licenses, local media reported Wednesday.
The country’s Civil Aviation Authority, Aerocivil, found several irregularities in commercial licenses obtained abroad, the group told Colombia’s prosecutor general. Two training schools within the country, and also some officials within Aerocivil, had also participated in the false license scandal, they said.
“There are pilots who have said they’ve completed work in Argentina or the United States, but they didn’t,” said Santiago Castro, Aerocivil’s director. He assured the prosecutor general that pilots with the fake licenses would be suspended immediately.
For attempting to bring the licensing issues to light, Castro said certain officials within Aerocivil had been threatened, though he did not say by whom.
